Trip to the EOD
Went over to EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) at the MWSS (Marine Wing Support Squadron) today to take a look at their cache of confiscated weapons. The guys there are responsible for disarming ordnance that is found in the local area. Their collection was very impressive...
...including RPGs (Rocket Propelled Grenades), mortars of all sizes, French and Soviet air to air missiles, rifles of all sizes some dating back to WWII, several sniper rifles with ranges out to 1300m, homemade rocket launchers, a British 9mm machine pistol, and AK-47s variants from all over.
Not much else exciting going on right now.
One of these days I will get down to the oasis. I am told that there are signs that read, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY IF YOU COME IN CONTACT WITH THE WATER. Something about parasites? I don't think the concern is coliform (which is why we cannot drink the water or even rinse our toothbrush) which I will also save for a later more disgusting email. I'll have to get the brief from our flight doctor.
Maybe I'll have a medical ailments update?
Also, there are several Iraqi aircraft around the base that will be fun to crawl on and I'll send some pictures of them then. Oh yeah, you can always go fishing. I haven't found the driving range yet or the batting cage. I did find the swimming pool but it is not open for public use. I think a dune buggy park or a motor cross track would be fun as well.
